UCI Community Resilience is a member of a community-academic partnership in Santa Ana, California that is working together to plan a community climate resilience center there. The California Strategic Growth Council selected the Santa Ana Economia Regenerative Comunitaria collaboration as one of eleven projects statewide to support pre-implementation planning for a new center. The planning runs from 2025 - 2027 with activity in the areas of community outreach, engagement, climate disaster education and training, and site selection. UCI Community Resilience leads climate disaster education and training and supports the community outreach and engagement team.
Santa Ana Community Resilience Center Vision
Our vision is to strengthen Santa Ana's community resilience to climate emergencies and readiness to implement community-driven climate mitigation and adaptation measures. Our planning process will engage key stakeholders and move the project to be ready for implementation. This planning phase will advance the local community's ability to identify, vision, design, construct, resource, and activate a community resilience center accessible to community members throughout the year and especially during and after emergencies. We will use a holistic approach to climate resilience, including a center designed and well-equipped for climate events and sustained by a network of supportive programming for economic relief, community governance, and local food systems. We are committed to foster democratic participation and equity through community-driven decision-making, build community wealth to strengthen our local economy, protect the environment, and promote public health and safety.
